Eco Method For Cleaning Silver
If your silver jewellery is heavily tarnished and does not contain any stones, you can clean it some simple household ingredients, you will need:
Aluminium kitchen foil; Bicarbonate of soda; Heatproof dish (not metal)
- Lightly crumple the foil and use to line the base of your dish (shiny side up)
- Place your jewellery on the foil (the silver needs to be in contact with the foil to work)
- Sprinkle over a couple of tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda
- Pour over water which has just boiled TAKE CARE: bicarbonate of soda will cause the water to fizz up
- Once cooled remove your jewellery and rinse thoroughly before drying with a soft cloth
- Once dry a silver polishing cloth can also be used
If your silver is heavily tarnished, you might need to repeat the process more than once.
